DJ GENRE

BREAKBEAT: Think of James Brown, Elvis and Jimi Hendrix vs Kraftwerk making a Volkswagon commerical. Nu-Skool, Old Skool, and Middle Skool Breaks. This means 2-Step, Nu-Step, Nu-Funk, Florida Style, Electro and anything in between. Major influences are Freq Nasty, Zinc, Simply Jeff, Kelly Reverb, DJ Icey, Plump DJ's, DJ Love (scratching), Koma & Bones, Rennie Pilgrem, BLIM, Fatboy Slim, General Midi, Bassbin Twins.. you get the idea...

HOUSE: On Occasion, bouncy, funky mid tempo beats with dub vocals on the disco or filtered house tip. Basically things that go with Funky beats. Major influences are Olav Basoski, Eric Morillo, Supergroove, DJ Dan, Bad Boy Bill.

DJ STYLE
Smooth mixes, sometime long, sometime short. Into the scratch styles and also a big fan of riding the mix for a couple minutes. Nothing wrong with some turntable effects, timely scratching, cutting, transforming and EQ manipulations either.

DJ BIOGRAPHY

Wes Smith headed up the Day One Rave during the Summer of 1993 in Gainesville, FL. AK1200 was the headliner, DJ Debbie D played her first gig and Chang rounded out the House. 1200 people paid to get in and a bunch jumped the fence. This was one of Florida's largest one-off warehouse events of the time period.

In 1994 he teamed up with Leon Kung to form Juice Productions. The pair threw a number of large parties bringing in national, regional and local DJ's to provide the vibes. Talent included: Andy Hughes, Baby Anne, Boyd Westerman, Chris Fortier, DB, DJ Debbie D, DJ Icey, Huda Hudia, Frankie Bones, Josh Wink, Kimball Collins, Kyle Hogan, Lieven DeGeyndt, Micro, Scott Henry, Tomas Joseph and more! This led to some great DJ days with the Repertory Theatre creations by Tomas Joseph and Gisela Viera as well as appearances for DJ Icey and DJ Sandy during the hey day of Orlando Florida's Edge Nightclub.

In 1995 he moved to Washington, DC where started out at Scott Henry and Lieven's Buzz. He has DJ'd there over 20 times along with greats like DJ Dan, DJ Icey, DJ Who, Kimball Collins, Paul Van Dyk & Simply Jeff including a set at Scott Henry's BUZZ, CD release party. During that same time he has DJ'd for a number of other DC nights such as Karl Mathew's Glide and the DEEP parties by the Catastrophic Crew. Amidst holding a several month residency at Recharge in DC, there have also been a few DJ Journeys.

Favorite trips have included a few stops at Simon's, DJing with Mark Sanchez at 600 North in Daytona Beach, a LUCID party in Atlanta with Kelly Reverb and the E-Entertainment weekend at Denver's Alleycat with fellow Juice Recordings artist Lil Rob. He has DJ'd throughout the DC scene including nights at Sting/Buzz, Mango, Red, Bar Nun and various one off's by M3 and D-Tribe. He is part of the D-Tribe Crew who has hosted some of the DC areas largest one-off raves such as Breakdown, Good Times & Jive Turkey.

In 1997 he launched Juice Recordings from Washington, DC where his DJ partner DJ Smalls (of Smith & Smalls) currently lives and continues bizness.

In 2000 Wes mixed The Breakbeat Bunch V1 with then partner DJ Debbie D. This continuous mix showcased the eclectic diversity of breakbeat tracks from the label.

Through 2004 Juice has released 25 vinyl records and 5 CDs including remixes from DJ X, Kelly Reverb, Sharaz and Simply Jeff. For more info check out JuiceRecordings.com!

Continuing his mission to spread the broken beats, Wes is currently living in the East Village of New York City, NY and running the Juice headquarters located in a downtown SOHO loft.

While continuing to release music through 2005, Wes will also be back and forth between NYC and Chennai, India overseeing various projects with his technological inventions! India is an amazing place with a diverse music scene just on the brink of accepting the Breakbeat culture. Look for reports from the far East Soon!

DAY JOB

I am the co-inventor of some simple access technology based on the .NET platform [and a lot of sweat] that is used by the construction industry to manage the timely erection of some big ass buildings. You probably have no use for it but there is a good chance that whoever built the building you work in might have used it!
